肖像画イメージの収集と調査（１）寡婦装束を纏った女性の単身肖像画のうち、帰属される作者やモデルとなった女性に関して、基本情報が比較的充実しているものに絞り調査を継続しているが、モデルに関する資料や制作背景に関する記録を辿ることが困難な場面も少なからずあり、さらなる資料調査の必要性を覚えている。（２）都市の門閥貴族や商人らの肖像画を主に対象としていたが、オランダ総督の公妃アマリア・ファン・ソルムスの肖像も対象に含め、ハーグの宮廷内に設けられたオラニエの間（Oranjezaal）装飾に掲げられた寡婦肖像画について調査を開始した。オラニエの間は、オラニエ家の歴史を顕彰すると共に、総督フレデリック・ヘンドリック公を哀悼する霊廟的な性格も備えた広間である。造営当時は、ドームに寡婦姿のアマリアの姿が掲げられていた。本作品は装飾プランの中でも非常に重要な位置に配されていることからも看過できない作品であるため、都市の寡婦肖像画文化との関連も含めて調査・検討することとした。当時の女性をとりまく環境についてデ・フリースらの先行研究を概観し、寡婦を含む女性たちの置かれていた当時の環境について整理した。結果、オランダでは女性の個人財産に対する権利や相続権が比較的強く守られてること、同時代の西欧諸国に比べて、より自律的な立場にあったことを確認できた。商人の中には、寡婦となったのちに夫の事業を引き継ぎ、事業主として優れた手腕を揮った女性たちも少なからず存在した。道徳的な寡婦としての隠棲生活という美徳がある一方で、社会の表舞台で活躍していた女性たちの現実を知ることができた。
