クリストフ・マルティン・ヴィーラントは、ドイツ文学において初めてロマーン（長編小説）を確立した人物として知られている。本研究は、その最初のロマーンに枠物語形式が利用されていることに着目し、ヴィーラントの作品分析と関連資料の収集と分析を通じて、枠物語という新たな観点から18世紀のドイツ文学史を問い直すものである。本年度は、初期の代表作『妄想に対する自然の勝利あるいはドン・シルヴィオの冒険』（1764）の作品分析を行った。本作品は、近代ドイツ文学における重要な作品の一つである。世界文学に通じていたヴィーラントは作品の中で、イギリス、フランス、スペインなど、他のヨーロッパ諸国の文学を模範にしながら、実験的な語りの技法をさまざまに試みた。本研究では、語りの技法に着目しながら、1．序文における複雑な設定、2．作品中の語り手、3．二つの挿話について、以上の三点を中心に考察した。とりわけ、長い作品における二つの挿話、すなわち、ヒヤシンスの物語と王子ビリビンカー物語である。後者は独立した物語としても読むことができ、創作メールヒェンの嚆矢としても有名だが、前者はこれまで「ビリビンカー」ほどには、注目されてこなかった。しかしながら、ビリビンカー物語が語られる直前に置かれたヒヤシンスの話は、ビリビンカー物語と対をなしており、無視できない挿話である。本研究は二つの挿話の意義を検証し、近代ドイツ文学における最初のロマーンとも言われる本作品と、散文のジャンルの発展との関連性について明らかにしていくものである。本研究の成果は、日本独文学会西日本支部研究発表会で報告した。
