通言語的に、動作主が動作の最中や終了時に対象物に対して抱く主観的な判断を述べる表現が存在する。例えば、日本語では「（例１）私は論文を【興味深く】読んだ。」の【興味深く】のような形容詞連用形の表現である（以下、「心理副詞」）。本研究は、このような心理表現が文中で他の要素と持つ関係について記述し、複数言語の関連事実を比較することで、自然言語の動詞句の普遍文法と個別文法の解明を狙いとする。令和４年度の主な研究実績は2点ある。１点目として、日本語の心理副詞は基本語順の平叙文で否定的に理解しにくい傾向にあることから肯定極性的な性質を示す一方（令和３年度の実績）、必ずしもそうでない場合があることがわかった。「日本語の心理副詞は肯定極性を示す傾向にあり、大きく３種類に大別できる」ことを確実に理解するために、否定極性表現（「誰もーない」、「何もーない」、「しかーない」）との共起関係や「全員ーない」の文脈で全否定か部分否定の解釈が得られるか、などを検証した。「（例２）太郎しかその本を興味深く読まなかった」のような文の容認性を数名の母語話者に確認したところ、心理副詞を常に否定的に捉える母語話者がいる一方で、そうではない母語話者も確認された。先の例２を否定的に解釈する母語話者の認識では、心理副詞が局所的な否定の作用域に収まっていると考えられるが、そうでない場合は、作用域の外にあると考えられる。生成文法の標準的な否定の作用域の構造関係を前提すれば、心理副詞の併合位置は少なくとも２箇所は存在すると言える。２点目として、韓国語の心理副詞と否定の関係について基礎的なデータを収集できた。日本語と異なり、韓国語の心理副詞は基本語順の平叙文で否定的に解釈される傾向にある。一方で、「思う」や「sayngkakhay」などの認識動詞文が否定された場合、両言語では心理副詞の否定の作用域に違いがあることがわかった。
