项目摘要

本研究課題では英語の速読活動に用いられるレベル別教材に焦点を当てる。速読教材は一般的に読解速度を測定するために本文となる英文と、内容理解を確認するための問題が付属している。研究1年目の教材分析の結果と研究2年目の速読教材の英文に関する研究に基づき、研究3年目の本年度は「理解問題の種類の妥当性の比較」を研究課題とし、以下の調査を実施した。英文速読教材で使用されている内容理解問題の種類・形式が英文読解速度にどのように影響するかを検証するため、同じ長さで同程度の難易度の語彙を使用している英文に対して異なる内容理解問題を出題し、日本人英語学習者の読解速度と読解効率（速度と正確さを同時に示す指標）を比較した。18 ~ 40歳の日本人英語学習者に対してオンライン調査を行った。調査では英文の長さと語彙が統制されている速読教材を用いた。英文に対して3種類の内容理解問題（文完成課題・True or False問題・要約完成課題）を5問ずつ準備した。協力者はPC上で解き方を確認した後、各内容理解問題条件の英文を2つずつ読解した。読解時間はオンラインで記録した。その後、理解問題に本文を参照せずに解答した。得られた読解速度と読解効率を算出して統計分析にかけた結果、内容理解問題の種類によって読解速度が異なることが分かった。この結果は理解問題の情報量から説明できる。協力者はいずれの課題も本文参照なしで解いたが、本文読解時点（読解時間を測定している時点）で詳細まで完全に理解する必要があるかどうかが読解速度に影響していた。研究3年目は速読教材の内容理解の種類・形式に焦点を当てたが、最終年度は追調査により研究2年目に生じた疑問を解消するとともに、研究4年目は研究を通じて得た英文速読教材への示唆を速読教材の作成基準を提案する。
