项目摘要

本年度は『カースト再考』を執筆・刊行した。本書（特に6章と終章）では，従来の南アジア研究で論じられてきた「イスラーム化」に通じる事例を挙げるとともに，従来のイスラーム化論だけでは捉えきれない現象が生じていること，そして地域社会におけるイスラーム化のメカニズムをマルチスケールな観点から明らかにする視座を導出した。今年度もサウディアラビア（以下，サウディ）での現地調査はCovid-19の影響により，実施できなかったため，バングラデシュ（以下，バングラ）からの出稼ぎ者数・海外送金，サウディの外国人数，バングラ国内におけるマドラサ（イスラーム教学校）に関する文献・統計調査を中心におこなった。バングラからの出稼ぎ者数はCovid-19の影響によって2020年に大きく落ち込んだが，翌年からV字回復を見せており，依然としてサウディに出稼ぎに行く人の割合が6割近くと，最も多いことがわかった。特に女性出稼ぎ者の割合が高く，2022年には女性出稼ぎ者全体の65％近くがサウディに渡航していた。他方で，サウディからバングラへの送金額は2020年以降に大きく増加していた。これは，Covid-19の影響で経済的に困窮した親族などへの送金が多く行われたためと推測されるが，更なる調査が必要である。また，バングラ国内のコウミ・マドラサに関しては，近年の政府機関による統計調査も含め，これまでの調査結果を照らし合わせると数値に大きなばらつきがあった。これには，どの教育施設をコウミ・マドラサに含めるかという問題が影響していると考えられるが，入手できた統計調査結果からコウミ・マドラサの学校数や在籍児童数の推移を捉えるのは困難である。そのため，フィールド調査で観察されてきた「中東からの海外送金がコウミ・マドラサの増加をもたらしている」という現象が，どの程度の広がりをもって見られるのかについては，なお検討の余地がある。
