本研究の目的は、近代のイギリスにおいて、世界の大洋を跨いで広がるブリティッシュ・コモンウェルスという帝国共同体がどのように想像・構想されてきたかを、殖民主義(settler colonialism)論などの知見を踏まえて政治思想史学の観点から明らかにすることである。この目的に照らして、2022年度は主として三つの作業を行った。(1)一つ目に、当該研究テーマをめぐる最新の研究文献の検討であり、この点ではH.G.ウェルズやW.T.ステッド、アンドリュー・カーネギーらの人種観をベースとしたグレーター・ブリテン、ブリティッシュ・コモンウェルス、アングロ・アメリカン共同体構想を探求したDuncan Bell, Dreamworlds of Race (Princeton UP, 2020)の国際的な書評フォーラムに貢献するという成果を得た。(2)二つ目に、昨年度に引き続き、殖民主義が展開された南太平洋地域（オーストラリアやニュージーランド）からの視角を検討し、特に著名な歴史家J.G.A.ポーコックが「新しいブリテン史」の枠組みの下で、本国ブリテンとの関係をいかに捉え直そうと試みたかを吟味した。(3)三つ目に、1960年代以降の太平洋・脱植民地期に、ブリテン帝国主義の深い影響下にあった中・南部太平洋の島嶼地域において、帝国的なブリティッシュネスがいかなる批判に晒されたかを研究した。(2)と(3)の成果の一部は、2022年5月の政治思想学会大会などで報告し、また、同学会機関誌『政治思想研究』に論文として寄稿するという成果を得た（2023年5月刊）。

The purpose of this study is to explore the modern world, the world's oceans and seas, the imperial community, the imagination, the theory of settler colonialism, and the history of political thought. In 2022, we will continue to work on this project. (1)A review of the latest research literature on this topic is presented in this paper. It is pointed out that H.G. has been exploring the community conjecture of Duncan Bell, Dreamworlds of Race, and the development of the race theory.(Princeton UP, 2020) International Book Review Contribution to Achievements. (2)Two items, yesterday's introduction, colonialism began to spread in the South Pacific region (from the perspective of the United States) to discuss, especially the famous historian J.G.A. (3)In the 1960s, under the influence of imperialism in the Pacific Ocean, the Pacific Ocean was depopulated. (2)The first part of the results of (3) was reported at the Political Thought Society Conference in May 2022, and the results of the paper submitted by the Alumni Association's organ journal "Political Thought Research"(May 2023).
