项目摘要

本年度は主に安土城天主の構造について考察を進めた。安土城の天主台穴蔵には天主に使用された礎石が現存する。ここでは発掘調査報告書の内容ならびに発掘調査の際に作成された実測原図を詳細に検討した。礎石の表面に残された痕跡について報告書は柱を立てた痕跡すなわち柱当たりとしたが、実測原図によって痕跡の規模を確認すると、この痕跡が柱当たりであったとは考えられない。前年度までに復元した天主の各階平面、後世の天守における床下の構造を併せて考えると、礎石の表面に残された痕跡は土台によるものと判断できる。土台によって天主の巨大な重量を支えるとともに、礎石の不同沈下を防いだと考えられる。天主台中央の穴跡（中央ピット）について、その規模や断面形状、さらには昭和に行われた発掘調査の成果を併せて考えると、ここは掘立柱の穴跡であったと考えられる。また文献史料によれば、安土城天主には長さ八間の「本柱」が使用されたという。同天主の平面構成や後世の類例からすると、この「本柱」は中央ピットの位置に立った掘立の心柱であったと考えられる。「本柱」は長さが八間もの長大な部材であることに加え、天主の巨大な重量を支承する。「本柱」の将来的な沈下を防ぐ目的で、穴蔵の造成土を掘って地山の岩盤層に直接「本柱」を立てた。そのため「本柱」は他に類例のない掘立の心柱になったと考えられる。その他、安土城天主の主要な先行復元案に対して改めて詳細に検討を加え、その妥当性が認められないことを指摘した。
