悲しい音楽を聴取するという人間の行動は、自ら不快感情とされる悲しみを享受するという、一見すると相反する行動である。これについて、本研究では対象（音楽）が表現する感情と対象を享受するヒトが体験している感情を区別して捉え、それぞれを個別に測定することでこのアンビバレントな現象を追求することを目的としている。今年度は、昨年度文献調査により考察していたポーランド語の「ジャル（悲哀）」に関し、実際にポーランド在住のポーランド人を対象として、現地での実際の使われ方、人々がどういった状況で、どういう意味でこの言葉を用いているのかについて予備的な調査を行なった。ジャルというポーランド語は、他の言語では表すことができない概念を含んでいるようであるが、特に音楽との関連が深く、音楽聴取場面での「悲しみ」を明らかにする上では有意義な調査であった。人を対象とした心理実験は、今年度も引き続き新型コロナウイルスによる影響で、感染拡大防止の観点から人を集めて実験に参加してもらうこと自体が難しく、特に本研究の実験では飛沫が飛ぶ恐れがある計画であったことから、特に注意を要するものであった。したがって、音楽聴取実験でこれまで使用してきた尺度の見直しを図るべく尺度に使用している形容語の検討を行った。具体的には、再度、感情を表すのに適した形容語を収集し、重複するものや不足するものの検討を他の研究者の意見も参考にしながら進め、英語の形容語についてはバックトランスレーションを行い、より精緻化した形容語尺度の作成に取り組んだ。
