项目摘要

本研究は、20世紀初頭のインドにおける女性の表象とその歴史的変容を、ウルドゥー語女性雑誌『女性（Khatun）』および『貞淑（'Ismat）』を手掛かりに再検討しようとするもので、該当雑誌における女性の表象を余すことなく拾い上げ、その歴史的変容を明らかにすることで女性の役割や社会との関わりを再検討することを目的としている。そのためインド・パキスタンでの資料調査をできるだけ早い段階で行う予定であったが、コロナウイルス蔓延の影響を受け実施できずにいた。そのような中でも、大英図書館のアーカイヴ資料(Archival Records from Endangered Urdu Periodicals: Preservation and Access for Vulnerable Scholarly Resources(EAP566))やInternetArchive(https://archive.org/)、Rekhta(https://www.rekhta.org/ebooks)といったサイトを使用し、できうる限りの資料を集めようと試みたが限界があった。しかし2022年度になり、海外渡航の規制が緩和されたことをうけてようやくインドのデリー、アリーガルでの現地調査・資料収集を実施することができた。『女性（Khatun）』については、刊行地であったアリーガルでの調査により未入手であった号の多くを集めることができた他、その他の貴重な資料を入手することができた。これらの資料については、順次整理・分析を進めている。一方、『貞淑（'Ismat）』は収集が遅れているため、今年度の夏に同誌の刊行地であったパキスタン・ラーホールを含む都市での文献調査・資料収集を予定している。また、前回の調査では訪れることができなかったインドの都市（ハイダラーバード、ボーパール）での調査・収集も計画している。
