2020年度は、小学校教員養成課程における「地域連携型防災教育カリキュラム」の作成のために、小学校での防災計画と防災教育の実践についての検討と小学校教員養成課程の大学での防災教育のカリキュラムの検討、防災教育実践を通して身に付けることができる資質・能力についての検討を実施した。宮城県内の小学校においては、東日本大震災を教訓に、津波を含めた防災計画の整備が進んだものの、地域や学校ごとの差が見られ、備えを形骸化させないためには、防災学習を重ねるといった継続的な取り組みが重要となった。2021年度は、阪神淡路大震災及び東日本大震災後の防災教育の現状と課題をもとに、日本の学校教育における防災教育について考察を行い論文としてまとめ、これからの防災教育においては、災害から自らの命を守り抜くために、主体的に行動する「姿勢」を育成するための教材や教育手法を開発・普及することが重要であることを明らかにした。また、「地域連携型防災教育カリキュラム」の一環として、仙台市内小学校で、地域連携型の防災教育を実施した。子どもたちは、ジオラマやドローンの映像、地域の方の話に関心を示すとともに、実際の避難行動を「自分事として」考えることができた。2022年度も引き続き、仙台市内小学校において地域連携型の防災教育を実施するとともに、長崎県の離島である壱岐市小学校でも津波等に関する防災教育を実施した。また、子どもの命を守れる教員の養成を目指し、被災地や震災遺構を見学や震災を経験した教育関係者からの講話を行うとともに、災害から自らの命を守り抜くために、主体的に行動する「姿勢」を育成する授業ができる教員として身に付けるべき資質・能力を検討し、「教員養成課程における『地域連携型防災教育カリキュラム』」を作成した。
