2021年度は、まず先行研究の検討および既存調査の再分析、理論的検討を行なった。その上で、(1) 都市部在住の65歳以上の高齢者を対象とする個別インタビュー調査と、(2) 35歳から54歳までを対象に、親世代のスマートフォン利用に対する支援に関するオンライン調査を行なった。(1)は本研究期間以前から開始していた調査を継続する形で行ない、東京都練馬区と東京都国分寺市の2箇所で調査を実施した。合計で29名のスマートフォン利用者である高齢者を対象に、スマートフォン利用歴、スマートフォンの利用開始のきっかけ、スマートフォンの利用内容、スマートフォン利用にともなう苦労・困難とその解消方法、家族・友人との交流状況などについて非構造化面接法による個別インタビューを行なった。この調査では高齢者のスマートフォン利用に際しての障壁・困難・苦労と、その解消に有効となる社会的支援について検討することを目的としており、調査の結果、高齢者のスマートフォン利用に対して先行研究でも示されていた家族・親族からの支援のみならず、契約関係にある携帯電話ショップ等からの支援が重要な役割を果たしていることが示唆された。(2)は日本在住で、自分専用のスマートフォンをプライベートで使っており、スマートフォンを使い始めた父または母にスマートフォンの使い方などについて教えたり、アドバイスをしたりしたことのある35歳から54歳の男女を対象として、クラウドソーシングサービスLancersを通じて行なったオンライン調査である。5歳刻みの年齢区分と男女の性区分を組み合わせた8セルに分けて均等割り付けを行なって調査を実施し、合計520名からの回答を収集した。この調査結果の集計・分析は2022年度まで継続している。
