本年度は、林業関連の文化継承・保全・資源化に関するフィールド調査を行った。和歌山県北山村では、筏流し（河川を活用しての運材）の技術を後世に継承するために、北山村役場が主導する形で、1979年から観光筏下り事業を開始していた。現在は第三セクターが運営し、コロナ前の10年間には、約4,000-7,000人強の年間利用者を記録していた。観光資源化を進める中で、小型船舶として認可されるための筏材や筏組方法の変更、運航の安全性を考慮した河川改修の実施、観光客への語りなど、新たな技術・ルールが多く誕生したうえで、流送技術が継承される状況を確認した。共同調査として、鹿児島県屋久島を訪問し、里地周辺に残る森林鉄道・軌道遺構群の現地踏査や、森林管理署などへの聞き取り調査を行い、林業遺産の資源化の可能性を検討した。その結果、トイレや歩道、道路といった観光に不可欠なインフラが十分整っていないことや、滑落・遭難などのリスクを伴う現状を鑑みると、直ちに観光資源としてではなく、郷土教育としての資源化が優先されるべきなどの意見が交わされた。また、別府地域での共同調査も実施し、明治期後期以降に新規掘削による共同浴場や新たな温泉地獄、園地が誕生したことや、観光ニーズの変化により一部が閉鎖・休止する状況を確認した。このほかに、国際的な保護地域管理の枠組みにおける文化的資源の保全の動向を把握するために、IUCN元職員などへの聞き取り調査を実施した。科学的根拠に基づいた管理の中に、伝統知も一つのアプローチとして加えることの重要性や、実質的な住民参加を進めるなど、中央集権的なアプローチではなく、地域の実情に配慮した多様な管理のアプローチが重要であるといった意見を把握できた。
