'Thomas III commentary' accompanying the 'Thomas III-Edition' Around 1250 an anonymous editor has reworked the opus 'De natura rerum' by Thomas von Cantimpre which is available in two versions ('Thomas I' and 'Thomas II'). Besides considerable shortages and conversions he also added material from further sources. The result of his work is known as 'Thomas III'. This Latin encyclopedia of nature was very common above all in the Bavarian-Austrian language area and thus a vital interest in natural science is documented. 'Thomas III' is subject to be made available to scientific research in two parts. In Part a (2012-2015) the reading edition of 'De naturis rerum' (Thomas III), created in 1992 and based on five manuscripts, was replaced by the critical edition based on 23 manuscripts. During 1990 to 1994 and in following years Janine Déus and Christian Hünemörder have elaborated a rough version of a comprehensive source-analytic commentary to Thomas III. This is subject to be revised, supplemented and made ready for printing (as Part b) during the next two years.
