初診来院した歯周炎患者のうち、本研究の趣旨を理解し同意が得られた軽度慢性歯周炎20名、中等度慢性歯周炎40名重度慢性歯周炎患者40名を対象とする。歯周病重症度は、米国歯周病学会による歯周疾患の定義（stageⅠ～stageⅣ）に基づき分類する。全身疾患の既往歴・現病歴・服薬状況を聞き取り、初診時、歯周基本治療後、再評価時（歯周基本治療終了1ヶ月後±1週間）、歯周外科治療再評価時（歯周外科治療終了3ヶ月後±2週間）にて歯周炎臨床指標測定（歯周ポケット深さ、クリニカルアタッチメントレベル、平均骨吸収度、プロービング時出血、歯周ポケット炎症面積 (PISA)）、血液検査（炎症、動脈硬化性疾患関連血清マーカー、血清脂質プロファイル、歯周病原細菌血清抗体価）、唾液検査（歯周病原細菌数、総細菌数）を実施する。主要評価項目として歯周治療前後における血清PCSK9レベルの変化量を、副次評価項目として、歯周治療前後における血清PCSK9レベルの変化量と歯周罹患状況評価指標との関連、歯周治療前後における血清PCSK9レベルの変化量と炎症・動脈硬化関連マーカーとの関連、歯周治療前後における血清PCSK9レベルの変化量とLDL-Cのとの関連についてを解析する。また、探索的評価項目として歯周治療前後における血清PCSK9レベルの変化量と唾液中歯周病原細菌量、歯周病原細菌血清抗体価及び血清脂質プロファイル（TC、HDL-C、oxdized LDL）との関連を検討する。
