本研究の目的は、サッカーにおけるゴールキーパー（以下GK）の「クロス対応」及び「ブレイクアウェイ」能力を客観的に評価する指標を開発することである。本目的達成により、GKの全守備能力を数値化することが可能になり、先発選手の選択や選手獲得に有益である。さらに本研究では、開発した評価指標を用いた客観的評価と主観的評価による評価の比較を行い、開発した客観的評価指標の有用性についても検討を行いたいと考えている。計画1年目に「クロス対応」及び「ブレイクアウェイ」の結果に影響を及ぼす主要因を明らかにするとともに、それぞれのプレー失敗確率を予測する回帰式を構築した。計画2年目に「クロス対応」及び「ブレイクアウェイ」能力を評価する客観的評価指標を開発し、それらと「シュートストップ」能力の客観的評価指標の有用性を指導者（GKコーチ、サッカーコーチ、サッカー及びフットサル以外の競技を指導しているコーチの3群）の主観的な評価との比較から検証した。計画3年目は新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響で延期していた、研究対象であるEURO2020の映像収集を行った。計画4年目である2022年度は、回帰式の検証で用いる予定のデータを、試合の映像分析により収集した。
