本研究の目的は、中国貴州省のミャオ族女性による衣装製作が、ミャオ族社会においてどのような意味合いを有してきたのか、その内実と変化を捉えることにある。特に1980年代以降、威信財としての民族衣装がミャオ族女性全体に普及するなかで、その衣装を製作することないし製作技法を習得していることは、ミャオ族の社会や女性によっていかに位置づけられてきたのかを検討してきた。初年度（2019年度）はこれまでの調査データをまとめて単著を出版し、衣装製作における分業化の進行とその製作を通した女性の社会的評価について明らかにした。2020年度は他民族との関係に着目しながら製作委託の現状について検討した。2021年度は、他地域での染織品の製作に関する先行研究を整理するとともに、ミャオ族における機械刺繍の導入について分析した。2022年度は、衣装の大衆化に深く関わってきた上記の事柄を踏まえて、ミャオ族の衣装製作には異なる特徴を帯びた２つの手仕事（「手本の複製」と「見本からの創造」）が混在していることを明らかにした。1980年代以降威信財として扱われている衣装は手本の忠実な再現によって、1980年代よりも前から多くのミャオ族に普及していた衣装は見本をベースとした各女性の創造性によって作られていることがわかった。この内容は、日本文化人類学会第56回研究大会と国際学術会議で公表し、現在オーセンティシティに関わる先行研究を引用しながら論文を執筆中である。また、ミャオ族の民族衣装の価値に影響を与えてきた外的な要因（観光業の発展、衣装売買の増加、ミュージアムによる収集・展示）についても初年度から2022年度にかけて分析し、その成果を公表してきた。、
