项目摘要

紀元前4千年紀のナイル河下流域に存在したナカダ文化期前半の土器資料を対象に、博物館および遺跡で実見観察調査を実施した。対象はエジプト・アラブ共和国ケナ県に所在するゲベレイン遺跡とナカダ遺跡の出土資料である。本研究では物質文化の地域差を把握することで、国家形成の初源段階における地域差の実態を捉え直すことを企図した。2019年度上半期は観察対象の選定作業に充てた。ゲベレイン遺跡の資料は、本研究代表者が参画しているゲべレイン考古学プロジェクト（Gebelein Archaeological Project）の調査隊長から提供された土器の情報をもとに選定した。ナカダ遺跡出土資料は博物館収蔵品目録などから対象を選定した。選定にあたり、黒頂土器（Black-topped ware）を主要な観察対象とした。年度下半期は資料の実見調査に充てた。10月10-27日に実際にゲベレイン遺跡に赴き、これまでに採集されたナカダ文化期前半の土器片を調査した。また参加期間中に実施した踏査で新たに土器を採集してこれらも調査した。この調査結果は、現在Polish Archaeology in the Mediterranean誌に投稿準備中の「ゲベレイン遺跡2019年秋季調査概報」に寄稿した。さらにゲベレイン遺跡で得た土器の特徴を相対化して地域差を把握するため、ナカダ遺跡出土土器資料の実見調査を3月にイギリスにて実施した。この調査では16・17日にケンブリッジ大学のフィッツウィリアム美術館に赴き、対象資料をエジプトでの調査時と同様の観察項目で実見・実測・記録した。調査の結果、予察ではあるが両遺跡では類似した器形であっても製作方法に若干の異同がある可能性を読み取ることができた。現段階では十分な資料数が揃っているとは言い難いものの、今後資料数を増やすことでこの見通しを検証することを計画している。
