项目摘要

本研究は,北部九州地域を対象として,古墳時代の集落遺跡及び墓地遺跡の分布動態を通時的に整理することを通じて,集団間関係の具体像を明らかにすることを目的としている。平成17年度は,GISの整備と北部九州各県の古墳の分布に関する調査を行った。平成18年度は,前年度のデータをさらに増補した上で,特に博多湾沿岸地域の集落遺跡の分布についてデータの収集を行った。また前期古墳を中心として編年基準を検討し,3〜6世紀代の墳墓遺跡のデータを時期的に整理することで,分布の変遷をGIS上で表現することが可能となった。さらに,副葬品として鏡が出土した前期古墳の築造パターンに関する検討を行い,関連資料も含めて鏡自体の調査・分析を並行して実施した。その結果,博多湾沿岸では,(1)鏡を副葬する古墳が3世紀代に築造された後は,その周辺で古墳の築造が継続する場合としない場合があること,また(2)4世紀後半代に60mを超す規模を持つ前方後円墳が複数築造されるが,5世紀前半になるとそうした前方後円墳の築造が一時的に減少すること,そして(3)5世紀後半から6世紀前半にかけて,再び各地で前方後円墳の築造が活発化すること,などが具体的に明らかとなった。集落遺跡については,3〜4世紀代の拠点的集落が4世紀末〜5世紀にかけての段階で終了することから,墳墓の様相とあわせて,この段階に集団間関係の再編も含めた大きな社会変動があったことが想定される。他方で,古墳の分布と集落遺跡の分布とが必ずしも一対一で対応関係にあるわけではないことも明らかとなり,北部九州以外の他地域も含めた比較検討が今後とも必要である。以上の調査・研究の結果,集団間関係の具体相とその動態を把握するための方法論の基礎整備という点で,一定の成果が得ることができたと考える。
