本研究では、地域社会に海面上昇と適応策のシナリオを示すために、環境変動・社会変動が人々の健康に及ぼすメカニズムを明らかにする研究を行う。長期的な計画としては、多彩な環境と社会をもつソロモン諸島国内における集中的・継続的なパネル調査と、他のオセアニア島嶼で広域の事例を集める横断調査とからなる。調査分野は「環境変動」、「社会変動」、「健康変動」、「シナリオ策定」である。本年度は新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）の影響が続く中で、先行文献・統計資料から広域事例を集めてマクロな分析を行い、国内における気候変動・適応策影響地調査を経てシナリオ案に関する検証を行った。さらにCOVID-19の影響が軽減された時期に、フィジー及びパラオでの海外調査を実施した。衛星画像解析により、長期的な変化を分析した。【環境変動】や【社会変動】では、海産資源の生産と市場の変化、新農業技術の導入などが確認された。【健康変動】としては、肥満症の増加と社会環境の解明や、生態系と健康との関係についての研究成果が公表された、人工衛星画像解析から、人間居住と海岸浸食との関係について検討された。【シナリオ策定】については、査読で貢献したIPCCの第６次報告書等を参考に、適応策を、海岸植生化、植林（内陸植林）、海洋保護区、侵略種の除去、土地かさ上げ、防潮堤、石垣、伝統的建築技術、雨水利用（在来・地球）、水資源保全、RO脱塩、給水ライン、伝統農業、農業・漁業インフラ、堆肥トイレ、天気予報／情報・デジタル化、送金、内陸移住、国内移住、太平洋内移住 、国際移住に類型化し、それぞれについての背景と結果を検討することとした。
