项目摘要

本研究は、イギリスが自治植民地や属領でブリティッシュネスという共通意識をいかに創出し、自国の勢力圏としてのブリティッシュ・ワールドを形成してきたかを、①血縁・言語・宗教の共通性に基づく感情的紐帯、②貿易・金融・生産構造に関連する経済的紐帯、③武器移転や軍事援助による軍事的紐帯の関係に注目しながら総合的に解明することを目的としている。その目的を達成するために、令和４年度は、主として以下３つの課題を追究した。第１課題は、感情的紐帯の分析であり、竹内はニュージーランドにおけるイギリス宣教活動に関する未公刊一次史料をニュージーランド国立図書館で収集し、アングロ圏構想の歴史的系譜に関する論文を執筆した。また、勝田はアイルランド総督廃止論が否決された理由をユニオニズムの観点から検討し、石橋は時間に関する科学や技術の広がりをメルボルン天文台の一次史料から分析し、馬路は脱植民地化が進む20世紀半ば以降に太平洋島嶼地域でいかなる政治構想が提唱されたかについて探究した。第２課題は、経済的紐帯の分析であり、松永はジョゼフ・チェンバレンの関税改革運動に関する従来の研究の重要な点を実証的に修正する論文を執筆し、福士は1911年米加互恵協定に関する一次史料の収集と論文執筆を行った。第３課題は、軍事的紐帯の分析であり、小川はアパルトヘイト時代のイギリスと南アフリカの安全保障上の関係について分析し、渡辺はケネディ政権期のパキスタン外交とカシミール問題の背景について考察し、横井は英印間の軍事的紐帯の研究を「軍事同盟・安全保障体制」・「軍事ロジスティクス」・「軍産複合体」などに注目して「軍拡の負の連鎖」の研究へと展開した。また、竹内、松永、福士、勝田は、海外研究協力者のアパラジス・ラムナス、アンドリュー・ディリー、レイチェル・ブライト、フェリシティ・バーンズが執筆した英語論文を日本語に翻訳する作業を行った。
