前年度に引き続き、今年度もCOVID-19の世界的流行により、国内外への出張等を含めた調査活動に非常な困難が生じたため、各委員は文献や資料に基づいて、それぞれのテーマにおける課題の現状把握、及び課題に影響を与え得る政治状況・環境について、個別の調査・研究を行い、その成果をオンラインでの研究会などを通じて議論した他、成果について各自で発表等を行った。本研究の研究体制は安全保障理論、アメリカ分析、中国分析、ヨーロッパ分析の４つのチームから構成される研究体制で行われる。第一の安全保障理論チームでは、ハイブリッド戦が取り沙汰される現状で各戦域・ドメイン（領域）と宇宙ドメインがどのように関連しているのかの理論的な追求、第二のアメリカ分析チームでは、2020年のアメリカ大統領選挙の結果が宇宙の安全保障政策にどのような影響を及ぼすかをトランプ政権での宇宙政策と比較しての分析、第三の中国分析チームは、中国政府の対米宇宙政策、特に「知能化された戦争」の追求において宇宙アセットをどのように利用しようとしているのか、またどのように位置づけているのかの分析、第四のヨーロッパ分析チームでは、増大するロシアの脅威に対してNATOがどのように対応しようとしているのかを中心に文献調査を行った。2022年度末には、ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻が起こり、そこでの宇宙アセットの使用、及びそれに対して各国がどのように反応したのか、に関する分析が課題として挙げられた。
