项目摘要

本研究では、白化に強く現存数が多いユビエダハマサンゴを対象に、「①ユビエダハマサンゴの大規模群落は、環境の激変をどの様にして乗り越えてきたのか？ ②それを可能にした要因は何か？」を学術的な「問い」とし、沖縄周辺におけるユビエダハマサンゴ群落の局在を明らかにするとともに、各群落の生殖様式と遺伝的構造、地質学的な形成年代を調査し、群体や種レベルの白化耐性と集団維持機構との関連を明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、座間味島近くにある安室島の群落を対象に、ボーリング調査を行った。砂礫の底質に最初に加入したのはユビエダハマサンゴであり、その後継続して群落を形成・維持してきたことが示唆された。なお、詳しい形成年代については現在解析中である。また、安室島および伊平屋島において、予想産卵時期の前に群落全体をカバーするように複数群体から枝片を採取し、組織学的観察から雌雄比を算出した。その結果、安室島では雌雄比がほぼ1:1であるのに対し伊平屋島はほぼ雄群体であった。性比が雌に偏る群落も前年までに確認されており、ユビエダハマサンゴは地域や環境によって性比が異なることが示された。夏期に瀬底島アンチバマ群落より、前年度以前に確認されていた2系統の雌雄群体を複数用いて産卵観察交配実験を行った。両系統では配偶子放出時刻には違いがみられなかった一方で、系統内よりも系統間での受精率が低いことが確認できた。以上から、ユビエダハマサンゴは最初に加入した場所に継続して生息していること（問①の一部に対応）、場所により性比が異なることおよび近縁種との不完全な繁殖隔離によって各環境に対応または全体の有性生殖の効率を高めている可能性がある（問②の一部に対応）。
