项目摘要

本年度は、昨年度に引き続き海外の研究機関における資料調査が実現困難であったため、国内で入手可能な文献史料や碑文テクストを中心に分析をすすめた。本年度検討した課題は、(1) ポリスが定めた経済関連の司法制度の運用実態、(2) 経済活動においてポリスの影響力が及ぶ範囲という2点である。まず (1) に関しては、法運用という観点に注目して分析をすすめた。前4世紀のアテナイは他ポリスへの穀物輸送を市民と在留外国人に禁止していたが、実際に商業活動を担っていた商人たちの中には一時的滞在の外国人も多かった。つまり、彼らが法の対象外となっているような状況において、この法が本当に穀物供給を確保する機能を果たしていたのかを検証する必要がある。そこで関連史料を詳細に分析したところ、商人同士の重層的な監視体制が形成されていたことで、この法は身分にかかわらず一定の抑止力として機能していたことが浮かび上がった。以上の研究内容については学会において口頭発表を行い、そこでの質疑応答をふまえて論文としてまとめた。次に (2) に関しては、古代ギリシアの経済活動を論じるにあたりポリスという枠組みがどの程度有用であるのかという点を考察した。考察にあたっては、まずポリスのメンバーシップについての研究史を整理し、経済活動に関する先行研究もそのような大きな動向の中に位置づけられることを確認した。そのうえで、経済活動に関してはポリスのメンバーシップの外側に位置する者たちもポリスの価値観によって行動を規定されていたということを法廷弁論の分析をとおして示した。さらに、商業従事者たちは単にポリスの影響を受けていただけではなく、ポリス社会との関わりの中で一つの集団としての輪郭を形成していたことも浮かび上がった。この成果については学会において口頭報告を行った。
