走ることは生きる上で必須の運動技能で、習わずとも2 歳～3 歳には自然と走れるようになる。しかし、そこで獲得した走り方が理にかなっているという保証はない。実際に、疾走能力にはランニングフォーム（技術）が大きく関係している。足の速い子は運動有能感を持ち、足が遅いことはスポーツ嫌いを生む要因ともなる事から、「正しいランニングフォーム」を獲得する事が重要である。本研究の目的は「正しいランニングフォーム」に重要な要素を明らかにし、それを身につけるための指導プログラムを確立する事である。本年度は昨年度に引き続き、1歳児から小学校高学年までの幼児・児童の走運動特性（走速度に対応したステップ長（歩幅）とケイデンス（単位時間当たりの歩数）の調整） を測定した。成人の走運動特性は低走速度ではステップ長、高走速度ではケイデンスの貢献が大きくなる特徴を有する。本年度までの測定によって、このような特性は男子女子ともに10歳児頃に生じることが示唆された。この特性の変化は第二次性徴期の開始などによる形態的な変化が要因となっている可能性がある。これまで子どもの疾走能力に関する研究は多く報告されているが、低走速度を含む走運動全体の特性にほとんど着目されてこなかった。しかし、発育発達過程で走運動特性が異なることから、本研究の結果は効果的なランニング指導の方法および指導による介入時期を検討する上で重要な知見となると考えられる。また、本年度は成人の走運動特性に関する論文投稿を行った。
