An electret-enhanced pyroelectric energy harvester has been proposed in this study with a novel thermodynamic cycle to effectively harvest energy from temperature fluctuations.PMN-PT is a promising candidate with a high pyroelectric coefficient, low permittivity, and high resistivity. Field dependence of pyro-coefficient and permittivity is verified, and 52% scaled Carnot efficiency can be expected for PMN-PT with 34 MV/m. The consistent and high power output of PMN-PT has been confirmed with various thermal input signals. Energy density of 0.03 mJ/cm2K is obtained with a 20 mHz 18 °C temperature cycle, while the scaled Carnot efficiency is limited to 0.42 % due to a low field of 0.5 MV/m. The thin-film structure is the key to realizing high efficiency via high field from the electret.
