本研究の目的は、日本による植民地支配から「解放」された後も、国共内戦・冷戦構造に組み込まれ、その下で植民地的構造がなお継続している台湾において、植民地主義からの完全なる解放として、台湾、中国、香港、日本、東南アジア、そしてアメリカなど広い範囲に渡って展開された「台湾再解放運動」の軌跡を明らかにすることである。そのために、わたしはこれまで「台湾再解放運動」を展開した台湾の知識人、廖文毅を中心として、戦後初期、主に1950年以前の廖文毅における台湾自治・独立運動の思想と実践を見てきた。2022年度は、これまで新型コロナウイルスで叶わなかった海外調査がようやく実現できた。1950年代以降、廖文毅を中心として、東京で台湾共和国臨時政府が樹立されたが、2022年度前期は台湾でのフィールドワークの成果として、その機関紙『台湾民報』のほか、日本関西地域の独立運動関連の雑誌を入手した。後期は廖文毅の出身地である雲林県西螺鎮でフィールドワークを行い、廖文毅およびその家族が通った公学校の学籍簿を手に入れた。また、廖文毅一家は西螺の長老派教会と深い関わりを持っているため、西螺長老派教会や廖家関係者へのインタビューも行なった。これら新しい史料を通して、1950年代以降における廖文毅の運動の発展のみならず、運動の背後にある植民地経験と地域の関係を掘り下げることによって、廖の思想と実践に対するより深い考察が可能になる。
