本研究は、自然災害が多発する国として日本との共通性を有するインドネシアにおいて、災害時に必要とされるオープンスペースの姿を解明し、安全に避難できる地域づくりの検討を行う。インドネシアの建造物は煉瓦組積造により構成されているため、地震時には倒壊のリスクが極めて高い。それにより安全な空間の確保が課題といえる。自然災害の都市への被害を軽減するために、世界では災害レジリエンスの概念の重要性が訴えられている。申請者は、都市のオープンスペースを避難場所や救援活動・復旧活動の拠点として整備している日本の事例が、インドネシアにおける災害レジリエンスを高めるためのオープンスペース活用に大きく寄与すると考えている。本年度は、スマトラ工科大学の学生に対してオンラインによるアンケートの実施、バンダールランプン市の職員との意見交換、スマトラ工科大学において災害時のオープンスペースの役割についてウェビナーの実施を行った。成果として、自然災害の経験や防災に関する知識、住環境の安全性、避難のタイミング・移動時間・移動手段といったどのように避難を行うのか、避難場所・避難理由といったどこに逃げるのか、を明らかにした。また避難場所と避難理由の関係を調べることで、モスクや学校は食料や情報の供給場所として認識されている等、特定のオープンスペースに役割があることが示唆された。調査を通して、避難場所としてのオープンスペースの役割や価値を広く認識することができた。
