玄奘は翻訳家であって、彼自身の思想を彼の翻訳した文献によって考えることは難しいと考えるのが自然である。ところが彼の翻訳した文献の中で『摂大乗論』無性釈、『仏地経論』および、後の中国唯識教学の正当説の基盤となる『成唯識論』に玄奘の思想的変遷を見ることができる。このことを研究代表者の私が確信したのは、『仏地経論』のチベット語訳と玄奘の漢訳との比較考察を行ったことにある。『摂大乗論』無性釈のチベット語訳と玄奘の漢訳との間に、思想内容上大きな隔たりがあることを指摘したのは袴谷憲昭である。『摂大乗論』無性釈の玄奘の漢訳には、後の中国唯識教学へと繋がる重要な思想内容が見られる。その部分はチベット語訳に存在しない玄奘自身による付加である。同様のことが『仏地経論』のチベット語訳と玄奘の漢訳との間にも見られ、玄奘がチベット語訳にない思想内容を多く付加している。しかも『仏地経論』では、『摂大乗論』無性釈の玄奘訳で付加された思想内容を修正していることが判る。『仏地経論』の付加部分の思想はまだ荒削りであり、それがさらに10年後に中国唯識教学の正当説を述べる『成唯識論』で発展的に展開されていることが判る。本科研の研究では、『仏地経論』のチベット語訳と玄奘の漢訳との精度の高い比較対照を進めてきており、一年延長した2023年度には成果として公にできる見込みである。しかし、『摂大乗論』無性釈と『成唯識論』との比較検討をするに当たっての重要な部分で、この分野の専門的研究者と対面で意見交換をするなど、文献だけでは察知できない部分があり、課題を残すことになった。これが現時点での研究実績の概要である。
