项目摘要

明治維新後、西欧化を余儀なくされた皇室では、明治6年（1873）に天皇が洋装化し、饗応のために西洋料理を取り入れ、洋装、舞踏、洋楽、ふるまいなどが国際的な接遇のレベルに達したことを示す場としての宮中晩餐会を成立させてきた。宮中晩餐会に集約される皇室の近代化の様式は、皇族・華族等の皇室周辺に伝播し、それが市民階級へ影響を及ぼし、明治以降の西洋文化を受容した日本独自の文化構築に繋がったと考えられる。しかし、この皇室の西欧化のために、物質や文化を実際にした人物・経緯は未だ不明なままである。本課題では皇室の西欧化の一翼を担うキーパーソンとして香川敬三・志保子父娘に着目した。香川敬三は皇后宮大夫として、また香川志保子は英国留学の後に皇后の御用掛となった。このように香川父娘は明治期の皇室、特に皇后に極めて近いところにおり、皇室、特に皇后の総合的な西欧化に多大な影響があったのではないかと推測される。この香川敬三・志保子関係史料2万4000点余点は平成30年（2018）に学習院大学に収蔵された。令和４年度も引き続き研究協力者上野秀治により作成された香川家史料の手書きの仮リストが公開・検索出来るようにするために、リストのデジタルデータベース化を行った。また研究協力者石井裕・梅田優歩と共に研究会を開催した。研究会の内容をNHKの番組制作会社が撮影し、その成果は「ロイヤルミステリー　皇后のドレスの謎」として放映された。研究課題に対する成果として長佐古美奈子「宮中晩餐会の歴史的考察その（４）―明治33年皇太子結婚から見る西欧化―」、石井裕「宮内省時代の香川志保子―明治33年皇太子御婚儀を中心に―」として公表した。
