沖縄県浦添市美術館にて、夜光貝の煮貝技法ではないかと思われる作品（過去の修復調査をもとに、全方面からの発色が見られる可能性のある作品を選出）を熟覧させていただいた。プロセスが分からない過去の作品から素材の製造技法を選定するのは非常に難しい事がわかった。どの様なプロセスで作られたかは置いておいても、結構な大きさの貝が「割り」も入れずに貼ってあることに驚かされた。これらが煮貝技法で得た貝だと仮定すると、煮貝技法で生じてしまう素材の反りをどの様に平にし、器物に接着したのであろうか？膠での接着（熱を用い貝を圧着する）が容易に想像できるが、湿気が高く高温な沖縄では適した素材であると考えにくい部分もある。夜光貝の上に加飾として用いられた彫りについても貼られてから彫られたのか否かなど、実際のものを見ることによって新たな課題、疑問を得る事ができた。また、中城にて夜光貝の煮貝技法の研究を進めて来られた宮城清さんを訪ね、お話を伺った。貝を叩く頻度、方向、温度、使っている道具など、煮貝技法について様々聞かせていただいた。また、古文書などから見られる可能性についても伺う事ができた。これによって、今後より良い材料をどの様に作っていくか試行錯誤したい課題が見つかったので、今年度温度計測などもしながら再度、煮貝の制作を行なっていく。夜光貝の漁獲量を調べに沖縄県漁業協同組合を訪れた。一昨年より那覇地区漁協が独立したとの事であった。現場の人の感覚では生息数が減ってきているといった実感は無いとの話であったが、夜光貝の取れ高のデータを頂けるよう話を進めている。那覇地区漁協さんからはデータをいただいている。
