農閑工芸は、身近な山林資源や農業の副産物を利用してきた。わずかな道具で建物や容器、そして衣服などを作る「軟質文化の造形」手法が取られる。本研究の目的は、地域資源を有効に扱ってきた農閑工芸の思考を、現代社会に広く適用するデザイン手法の提案である。本研究では、日本の各地において古くからの作り方が残るホウキを取り上げ、①一般社会で展開するホウキ作り（一般化）②白川郷で実施する植物資源の循環を生むホウキ作り（特殊化）を検討し、新たな造形プログラムを開発する。①②の成果を活用し、地域の環境と文化が共存する、もの作りを核とした新たなコミュニティーの創出を目指す。コロナ禍において「もの作りを核とした新たなコミュニティーの創出」のための取り組みが難しいため、ホウキづくりの①一般化を進める計画を立て直し実践した。その中において、昨年度白川郷にて実践したミゴ（稲藁の穂）を素材としたホウキ作りの制作方法を検討し、短時間で作り上げることができ、なおかつデザイン性の高いホウキの作り方を考案した。本年度は、作り方をマニュアル化し、制作方法をまとめた冊子を制作した。また、一般的なほうきについて、造形素材（ホウキモロコシ）の栽培から収穫、ほうきを作る作業を撮影し、制作工程に関わる一連の流れを動画にまとめた。以上の成果物である冊子と動画を有効に使用したワークショップをつくば市内の小学校含めて複数箇所において開催した。
