Currently, the methods for compensation of the thermo-elastic behavior of main spindle systems require significant parameterization effort. Therefore, the proposed transfer project aims for a reduction of the current experimental effort for parameterization of externally driven spindle systems. This is achieved by performing the parameterization of the compensation model of the project based on the prediction model of the sub-project. Parameterization of the prediction model only requires the knowledge of friction moment of the bearings at different operating points, which can be determined quickly and efficiently on spindle bearing test rigs. These experimentally determined values are universally valid for spindle systems employing bearings of the same type. Elaborate experimental investigations on physical spindle systems are thus not longer required. The proof of suitability for industrial application of the approaches for modelling and compensation developed in the first phase of the project is conducted with-in the proposed transfer project in collaboration with Chiron Werke GmbH & Co. KG on an externally driven spindle.
