项目摘要

2022年度は研究の最終年度であったが、研究開始時にコロナ禍となったため、当初の予定どおりの研究は遂行できなかった。しかしながら、日本国内で入手可能な史料をもとに調査を進めた結果、8月には1922年に小アジア西海岸のスミルナの港でギリシア難民を救ったとされる日本船の船長の名前がほぼ確定された。その船長の親戚が愛知県にいることがわかったので、愛知での調査を実施した。その際、NHKの記者等も同行し、「はんだ郷土史研究会」の有志の協力のもと、船長の親戚の方から、船長本人に関連する史料を見せていただいた。さらには、聞き取り調査もおこなった。聞き取りをもとに、船長に関連する史料が三井物産の史料に残されている可能性があったため、10月に三井文庫での調査を実施したが、成果はなかった。さらに、海外渡航が可能となったことから、9月にはギリシアに赴いた。日本国内で可能な限り行った研究の成果を、在アテネ日本大使館主催の講演会を2回（アテネと北ギリシアのカヴァラ）で２回、現地の歴史研究者や難民の子孫に対して、ギリシア語での講演（タイトルの日本語訳は「1922年スミルナの日本船――語りと歴史」）をおこない、現地の研究者との意見交換もおこなった。愛知県での調査とギリシアでの講演の模様は、後日NHKで放映された。これらの研究成果を、東洋大学紀要に論文として発表した（"Reconsidering Narratives and Facts of the Rescue Activities by a Japanese Ship in Smyrna in 1922"『東洋大学文学部紀要』第76集史学科篇大48号pp.1-32.)。
