令和4年度も、新型コロナウイルスの影響で、海外での調査を行うことができなかった。また、国内の大学図書館等でも史料調査を予定していたが、学外者による図書館の利用制限などからほとんど行うことができなかった。令和4年度は、主に次の２つの点から研究を行った。第一に、外務省外交史料館の史料を用いた研究である。令和２年度に、１９３７（昭和１２）年に、日本人漁業者に初めて死傷者が出た２件の邦船銃撃事件（第７徳栄丸と泰進丸事件）を取り扱ったが、その他の拿捕事件などについても調査を行った。日本人漁業者同士の紛争と、日本人漁業者と現地人漁業者の間の対立が次第に深刻化していったことが明らかになった。特に、蘭領東インド（現在のインドネシア）では深刻で、現地の日本大使館が調整に乗り出す事態になっていたことが判明した。大使館の斡旋で、日本人漁業者での組合の創設や冷蔵庫の整備などの案が出されたが、日本人漁業者間の不和でなかなか実現しなかったことが明らかになった。第二に、戦前期に発行された『南洋水産』を用いた研究である。『南洋水産』は１９３５（昭和１０）年に創刊され、水産に特化した月刊誌である。当初は、調査研究や講演会等の記録が主要な内容であったが、次第にその内容は質量とも厚みを増して行き、日本人漁業者および水産会社の南洋進出の機運を高めていった。南洋各地で展開する日本の水産業界が、日中戦争の影響をどのように受けたのかについても分析の焦点をあてた。
