项目摘要

（１）第4回全体研究会を北九州市立自然史・歴史博物館で開催し、埼玉大学名誉教授田村均氏が、17世紀から20世紀における小倉織の変遷を追跡し、近世後期から幕末・明治期の「豊前小倉織」の実像と生産変動について報告した。また、博物館が所蔵する糸車を実見し、北九州地域と長野・埼玉・栃木周辺との比較をおこなった。北九州地域の糸車は車輪が大きく、土台の板の長さが短いことが特徴であると考えられ、出雲の影響の有無などが指摘された。（２）松江歴史館が所蔵する「小倉織縞手本」の調査をおこなった。これは松江地域の木綿産業を示す史料として松江歴史館に常設展示されているもので、もとは3巻あったようであるが残存するのはこの縞帳のみであるという。内部には、およそ縦1cm、横18cmの布片46点と縦4cm、横3cmの布片24点の計70点が貼付されていた。前者と後者の布は使用された布の種類や密度に違いがあり、帯用生地と袴用生地などの異なる用途のものであると推測される。布片には番号が振られていることから、生地注文のためのカタログとして使用されたものであると考えられる。この縞帳に見られる小倉織は、これまで調査した小倉織のなかで最も細い双糸を使用し、高い密度で織られていることから、これまでの小倉織のイメージを覆すものであった。また、あわせて松江・出雲地域の糸車の調査をおこなった。この地域の糸車は北九州地域と比較すると車輪が小さいものが多くみられた。（３）松江歴史館が所蔵する「小倉織縞手本」について、全70点の布片について、糸の番手、密度等などのデータをまとめた。（４）近代文献資料を中心に、小倉織に関する記述を抽出し、データベースにまとめた。「豊前小倉織」に関する記述は地誌などを中心にみられ、明治期においても小倉織が地域ブランドとして取り上げられていることがうかがえた。
