本研究計画の目的は，近年のバリで顕著となってきている都市への移住と少子高齢化の帰結に対するバリの人びとの対応の事例を取り上げ，そこから現代のバリ・ヒンドゥー教徒の社会における共同性のあり方を再検討することである。二重帰属の移住者がどのような選択をするのか，インタビュー調査を通じて得たさまざまなパターンの事例を検討して共同体への帰属のあり方を調べる。また，フォーカスグループ・ディスカッションにより，当事者自身の顕在化していない動機や意思決定プロセスに着いての情報を取り出す。これまで新型コロナ禍のためにこのような調査を行うことができなかったので，2022年度は当初計画では2020年度に予定していた予備調査をマタラム市で行い，フォーカスグループに集めるのに適した対象者の選定や，対象者の経済状況などの聴き取りを行った。従来言われているように，バリの血縁組織（父系出自集団）は慣習法共同体（慣習村）の編成にさほど重要性を有しないと見るのは妥当であるが，その一方で，自分の「祖先 kawitan」に遡る紐帯があるから慣習村への奉仕は「負担」ではなく一種の「恩寵」であると慣習村への帰属を説明する。つまり，バリ人が自分と共同体との紐帯を語るのに，血縁的紐帯を意味する言葉で語る。この地縁と血縁の共存を血縁集団の地縁化の過程で説明することは可能に思えるが，実証は困難であり思弁の域を出ない。推測の歴史に思弁を費やすのではなく，より実りある研究方略として，バリ人を取り巻く現代的状況における二つの異なる規則の働き方を見ることにする。
