项目摘要

本研究は、奈良盆地内のいくつかの祈雨（雨乞）祭礼について、その歴史的変遷を検討する基礎的研究である。本年度も引き続き、研究の基礎作業として奈良県内の市町村史（自治体史）を利用し、奈良盆地の祈雨（雨乞）祭礼の事例の収集を行った。これまでの作業の結果、平野部地域だけでなく、水源地である盆地周縁部や山間部地域の祈雨（雨乞）にも留意する必要性を確認した。そのため、盆地周縁地域の事例収集とそのデータ化も行っている。また、祈雨祭礼だけでなく水神信仰全般に関する情報収集を行っている。本年度は、盆地南半部に作業対象を広げた。引き続き、春日香山、東山中、生駒山、郡山丘陵、布留地域や当麻地域など、特徴的な民俗事例がみられる地域に注目して事例収集、史料調査を深化させる計画である。また本年度は、前年度に薬師寺龍王社社殿の調査で確認した、近代の棟札や近世の旧部材の墨書銘の解読などを行った。次年度にて、解読結果をふまえ、中世末期の建築とされる社殿の変遷を論文にまとめて公表する予定である。本年度も新型コロナウィルス感染症流行の影響下にあり、史料調査や民俗事例の現地調査は実施しにくい状況にあった（ただし、薬師寺龍王社祭礼の調査など初年度以来継続して実施できているものもある）。出張を伴う調査が難しい期間が長期化したため、文献からの事例収集の充実を図った。次年度も引き続き文献からの情報を広範に収集していく。最終的には、本研究課題の成果の一部として、奈良盆地全体の雨乞事例を集成した基礎的データを構築することを目指している。農業離れや土地改良の進展に伴い、祈雨祭礼の規模の縮小や廃絶は今後ますます進むとみられる。本研究において事例収集を行うことの意義は、祈雨祭礼のみならず、水利関係や村落共同体の歴史的変遷を検討するための基礎情報の整備にあると考えている。
