今年度はネパールの現地調査を実施することができた。調査は、チトワン国立公園周辺の稲作農家を対象とし、稲作経営に関する費用や生産量、稲の品種とそれぞれの作付け面積についても聞き取りを実施した。コロナ前にベースライン調査が実施されており、今回は、コロナ禍や2020年の干ばつの影響を知るための調査と位置付けられた。一部、調査を完了できなかった地域があり、分析は途上であるが、干ばつは稲作農家の品種選択に変化をもたらしており、やや古いながらも干ばつ耐性を持つ稲作品種が選択された可能性を示唆した。緑の革命によって、多収量品種への移行が進むが、自然災害が頻発したり、予想が難しい中、農家の事前のリスク回避行動のひとつとして、栽培品種の多様化があげられる。また、今回の調査結果は、コロナ禍で肥料価格が高騰したことを示しており、肥料反応の高い近代品種を作付ける条件を満たせなかった農家も多い。農業保険などのリスク管理手段を持たない中で、稲作農家が様々な品種から、自らの状況に最も適した品種を選択することが示されよう。
