本研究の目的は、“異物への過剰な拒否反応”として世界各地で生起する“「壁」の増殖”の現況を把握し、この状況に対峙する〈“共存・共在の智”の存立基盤はいかなるものか、どのように伝達可能となるか〉を明らかにすることにある。「可視的局面」としての“「壁」の増殖”の現況把握および「潜在的局面」としての“共存・共在の智”の探求を可能とするため、“探求型フィールドワーク（Exploratory Field Work）”によるブラジル他での調査研究を遂行することを計画していた。探求型フィールドワークは、18カ国、28地域での共同調査のなかで構築してきた調査研究の在り方（ways of being）であり、臨場・臨床的（clinical）かつ全景把握的（visionary）という対位的な特徴を持つ。臨場・臨床的の条件としては、「潜在的局面」の把握を可能とする調査地の言語・文化への深い理解が必要となる。全景把握的の条件としてはフィールドワークから個々の知見を位置づける社会理論が必要となる。今年度は、いまだのこる「新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）」の影響を加味して、1)調査地の事前調査による“「壁」の増殖”の現況への理解と歴史・構造の把握、2)これまでの調査地であるアゾレス、カーボベルデ、メリリャとセウタ、ランペドゥーザ等における“「壁」の増殖”と“共存・共在の智”が対峙する状況についての理解のとりまとめ、3)オンラインで海外共同研究者とのカンファレンスを実施した。加えて、本調査研究の基盤となっている日本・イタリア・ブラジルにおける地域密着型調査研究の深化を試み、具体的には、立川・砂川地区とサッサリ市サンタ・マリア・ディ・ピサ地区において、都市の内なる“社会文化的な島々”として捉えた相似形の地域密着型研究を推進した。
