昨年度に引き続き以下の作業を実施した。（1）県立図書館・県公文書館における一次史料および関連史料の調査・収集。（2）研究対象についての基礎資料（県議会史・学校沿革史）および学校より刊行された各種資料の収集。これに加えて、今年度からは（3）学校文書の収集、も開始した。（1）について、鳥取県では県立図書館で鳥取西高等学校、倉吉東高等学校関係の資料と県の高等学校政策に関わる基礎資料を、岡山県では岡山朝日高等学校関係の資料を、福岡県では修猷館高等学校、県立高等学校の教員に関する資料を調査・収集した。また、国立国会図書館で収集可能な県議会関係資料は、出張をともなわない形で収集を行った。また、デジタル化の進展にともない、行政資料の一部はデジタル情報として閲覧可能になっているものもあるため、デジタル化が済んでいる県公報や県議会の記録については、インターネットも介して収集した。（2）について、（1）の進捗状況を受けて、研究の遂行に必要なものを複写した。（3）について、福岡県立修猷館高等学校と島根県立浜田高等学校に赴き、所蔵されている学校文書を調査した。今年度も本格的な研究成果報告という段階には至っていないが、来年度における学会発表に向けた調査は終了させた。また、昨年度に引き続き『月刊ニューズレター　現代の大学問題を視野に入れた教育史研究を求めて』には収集した資料をもとにした資料紹介を連載した。合わせて、『中等教育史研究』第30号に修猷学館に関する史料紹介を投稿し、2023（令和5）年4月に刊行予定である。
