项目摘要

富山県・東京都への訪問調査を実施し、南原繁および戦後教育改革に関する文献を収集・分析することによって、南原の思想について理解を深めることができた。その成果の一部として、射水市新湊博物館で収集した資料をもとに執筆した資料紹介「射水市新湊博物館所蔵片口屋文書より南原繁書簡・葉書」が、所属先の研究紀要に掲載された。本稿は、射水市新湊博物館が片口屋に関する史料を収集・整理した片口屋文書から、南原繁書簡・葉書を紹介するものである。南原と片口安太郎の交流は、南原が内務省在籍中に射水郡長を務めたことが契機となった。いわゆる「青年郡長」の特質の一つとして「地方の教育問題に、異常なまでの熱意を持って臨んでいたこと」があげられているように、南原もまた射水郡長在任中に郡立農業公民学校創設を立案したことで知られる。射水郡長時代の南原に関する研究は資料面の制約が大きいが、南原と片口の長年にわたる交流を示す本資料から、郡立農業公民学校創設を通じた二人の協力関係の一端が垣間見えることとなった。さらに、高岡市立中央図書館において郷土資料および新聞資料を閲覧するとともに、射水市中央図書館では旧「片口文庫」について調査を進めた。旧「片口文庫」は、小杉町立図書館から射水市中央図書館に引き継がれ、内容に応じて再分類され、書庫に収められている。『小杉町立図書館蔵片口文庫目録1983』を参照しながら、「郷土資料」を中心に内容を確認した。
