今年度は、被爆地を離れて生活し、地域で何らかの活動をしている原爆被害者の方に活動の意義や伝えたいことを伝える工夫や、実際に行っている講演や授業についてお尋ねしたり、文献調査を行った。国際平和拠点ひろじま構想推進連携事業実行委員会 （広島県 ・広島市）(2018)が実施したひろしま復興・平和椅築研究事業（広島の復興経験を生かすために－廃墳からの再生－第4巻）で行われた「被爆体験継承の課題：何を継承するのか」という調査報告で、多くの被爆者が期待通りに継承されていないと感じている実態が指摘されている。この点について、継承している活動をしている方々に調査したところ、同様に「ある程度伝わっていると思う」としながらも、「期待通りに継承されていないと全ての人が感じており、継承活動に試行錯誤し、苦労している実態がある。特に被爆の実相を伝えきれないという限界や情緒的に伝えてもそれがよいのかという戸惑いがあることが明らかになった。そして、こんなことは二度と繰り返されてはいけないという思いでもって活動し、継承をして、認知的に「核（兵器）廃絶」や「戦争がおこならいこと」「世界の平和」が重要と伝わっても、実際にそれを維持してくれる姿勢につながっているかという実感が持てないといったことも関与している結果が示された。また伝えたいことを伝える工夫としては、事前学習で原爆投下の知識だけでなく、当時の生活の実態を勉強してもらうこと、情緒的に訴える面も大切だが、それ以上になぜ戦争が起きないことが大切かを知ってもらうこと、今自分にできることや考え方を伝えられること、年齢によっては科学的な影響、遺伝的影響をもとに考えてもらうことなどが上がった。次年度は、原爆被害者の人生の支えと体験の継承とその意味について、包括的な検討と考察を進める予定である。
