キリスト教美術におけるイメージの意味と物質性の関係を対象とする新たな図像学の構想を具体化するため、何らか神格的存在、現実や自然を超越 する者、現世における不在者などを人間がいかにして想起し、交渉するかという方法とそのあり方を明らかにするという共通の問題を設定 し、本課題において重視される物質性（マテリアリティ）を主要な観点として文化人類学系の研究者と美術史系の多数の研究者により幅広く共同研究を基盤に2021年度末に刊行した論文集（木俣元一・佐々木重洋・水野千依編『聖性の物質性 　人類学と美術史の交わるとこ ろ』三元社）での中間的成果を踏まえて、2022年度には、研究代表者及び各分担者が研究をさらに発展させることができた。たとえば研究代表者は、名古屋大学人文学研究科附属人類文化遺産テクスト学研究センターとの連携のもとで、キリスト教と仏教の宗教遺産における「真正性（オーセンティシティ）」をテーマにした国際シンポジウム「宗教遺産をめぐる真正性―宗教遺産テクスト学の発展的展開―」を企画・開催し、基調講演と研究発表を担当した。この研究集会では、起源の創出、複製の自律性、アプロプリエーションの連鎖、物質性と概念性のあわい、多声性：誰にとっての真正性か、文理融合型研究における真正性という、６つのセクション、２３の発表から構成される研究集会を通じて、宗教図像における真正性を物質性（マテリアリティ）と概念性を軸として問い直す研究交流を進め、とくに研究分担者のうち秋山は「物質性と概念性のあわい」のセクションで「見えないものをいかに見せるか―比較宗教美術史の観点から― 」と題された研究発表を行った。このほかにも研究代表者及び研究分担者は、研究成果を雑誌論文、図書、研究発表等を通じて研究成果の公表を行い、事例研究に関する資料収集も進めることができた。
