本研究課題では、幼少期から長時間の英語学習に取り組んだ子どもの日本語母語話者の英語力、日本語力、一般認知能力について調べている。当該年度においては脳波を用いた脳機能計測、英語スピーキングデータの取得、国語のペーパーテストによる国語力検査など、トータルで150件以上の実験・調査を実施した。当該年度はコロナ禍の3年目であるが、1・2年目にほとんどデータの取得が出来なくて研究が進まなかった状態から、やや盛り返すことが出来た。脳波を用いた脳機能計測においては、小学生と大人（大学生）より、日本語および英語の単語に対する脳反応を取得した。様々な英語レベルが想定されたため、まずは言語の基礎となる単語に焦点を当てて実施した。今年度取得した単語に対する脳波データは、まずは大人のデータの一次的な分析を行ったところ、少し先行研究とは違う結果が得られたため、原因について考察している。小学生についても多くの脳波データが取得できたが、英語学習経験の属性に基づきグループ分けすると、人数が十分でないグループもあるため、今後もデータ取得が必要である。英語スピーキングについては、数年前から用いている実験手法が高レベルの英語学習者を対象にしたものだったため、もう少し低いレベルの学習者でも取り組めるような実験手法を新たに取り入れた。これにより、以前より広い英語レベルの子どもたちから英語スピーキングデータを取得することが可能になった。得られたスピーキングデータについては、発話分析の標準的な分析手法を応用しながら、流暢性などの側面から分析を進めたが、完了には遠く、今後も継続していく。国語テストの結果においては、子どもの英語学習経験に起因すると思われる興味深い傾向が見え始めているが、より確実な結果を得られるように、今後も実施と分析を続けていく。
