本年度は、3年に渡るプロジェクト期間の初年度として、文献収集やインタビューを始めたとした調査活動と、海外での在外研究を通じたネットワークの形成に重きを置いた活動を展開した。海外で開催される学会は発表の申し込みが大会の半年以上前になるものも多いため、採用初年度である今回の在外研究中に公的な研究報告の機会を設けることはできなかった。しかし、ヨーロッパ東南アジア学会や、イギリス、ロンドン大学の東洋アフリカ学院で公開されている各種セミナーなどへの参加を通じ、本プロジェクトの重要なテーマであるアートと学術の連帯というトピックが、ヨーロッパの東南アジア研究周辺で注目を集めつつあるテーマであることを再確認することができた。また、そうした学会やセミナーへの参加を通じ、ロンドンだけでなく、ヨーロッパで活躍する若手フィリピン研究者らとのネットワークを構築することができたのは、本年の活動における大きな収穫である。また、フィリピンナショナリズムという本プロジェクトのテーマにとっても重要な文脈となる、海外出稼ぎ労働者が抱えるナショナルな物語とのつながりについての知見を得るため、在外研究活動と並行してロンドンのフィリピンコミュニティでの参与観察調査を行った。その中で、バイバインというフィリピンの固有文字の普及活動に関し、関係者にインタビューすることができた。この土着性、固有性への希求と、グローバル世界を飛び回る「フィリピン人」にとっての武器（アート）として普及させていこうとするこの活動に関して収取したデータを、次年度以降、具体的な論文として投稿することを計画している。
