A Study on the Publicisation of Sacred Space and Transformation of the Urban Water Bodies in India

本研究的主要目的是探索城市化进程、城市规划策略，以及自然和建筑成分的各种填海、修复和遗产保护活动如何塑造和改变城市水体和集水区生态，这些都面临着印度众多大都市的挑战。这项研究首次详细分析了早期殖民时期城市水体的排水，随后是瓦拉纳西灭绝和幸存水体的复兴运动。今年我把我的研究时间用在了写论文的章节上。由于2019冠状病毒病大流行的情况和各种旅行限制，我无法在印度瓦拉纳西进行实地调查，无法绘制现有水体的物理地图，也无法检查正在进行的恢复和保护工作。根据2019年收集的数据和统计数据以及我之前的实地调查，我写了这篇论文。我还在研讨会上展示了一些章节，以接受其他研究人员的评论。此外，我还在其他国家和国际研讨会上展示了我的发现和论点，以获得有价值的投入。

The primary objective of this research is to explore the urbanisation process, urban planning strategies and how the various reclamation, restoration and heritage conservation exercises of natural and built components have shaped and modified the urban water bodies and the catchment ecology that are facing several challenges across the numerous metro cities of India.This research has offered a first detailed analysis of the early colonial draining of the urban water bodies followed by the evolving exercise of rejuvenation of extinct and surviving water bodies of Varanasi.I dedicated my research time to write the chapters of my dissertation this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation and with various travel restrictions I could not conduct my fieldwork in Varanasi, India to physically map the existing water bodies and also to examine the ongoing work of restoration and conservation. Based on the data and statistics collected in 2019 and during my previous fieldwork I wrote the dissertation.I also presented few chapters in the seminars to receive comments from other researchers. Additionally I also presented my findings and arguments in other national and international seminars to get the valuable inputs.
