项目摘要

ギランは、『浄土教報』、『明教新誌』など、明治時代の仏教新聞を中心に、明治時代の仏教諸宗派の「仏教音楽」の概念を調べた。これらの調査は「東洋音楽研究」、「一音成仏」に論文として公開した。また、明治・大正時代の新聞や雑誌をもとに、同時代の「花まつり」における女性と音楽の関係を調べた。この調査は2023年1月に行ったシンポジウムで発表した。研究分担者である大内は、昨年度取り組んだ、近代の声明の展開における邦楽調査掛、とくに平曲家館山漸之進（1845－1916）に関する研究を、当時の文化・社会政治情勢に位置づけて進展させた。館山の『平家音楽史』刊行に多大な助力をした大隈重信の人脈、平曲界における福地桜痴との関係などから、声明が「音楽」として再発見された背景にあった人的ネットワークを探り出した。さらに、『音楽雑誌』の分析から、明治期の音楽界の仏教音楽に対する関心を探った。研究分担者である遠藤は、ハワイにおける英語讃仏歌について、曹洞宗、浄土宗、東本願寺、本派本願寺の各寺社で追補現地調査を行なった。また、当時ハワイでは、女性が讃仏歌の創作や教育に参与していた点を鑑み、ドロシー・ハント（Dorothy Hunt1886-1983）らを中心に近親者から聞き取り調査を行なった。同調査内容は、2023年1月のシンポジウムで発表を行った。加えて2023年3月にはラウンドテーブルにて「仏教と音（声）」をめぐって関連する研究者とラウンドテーブルを行なった。
