今年度は中国北宋・遼の造形について考察を加え、清凉寺釈迦如来像が依拠する仏身論が北宋・遼の事例とどのような関係を持っているかを探究した。（ａ）開封の伽藍の仏身論：啓聖禅院と大相国寺の伽藍には、いずれも「千百億釈迦」が存在した。これはこの伽藍に『梵網経』に基づく、盧舎那仏とその化身の釈迦という仏身論が適用されていることを示す。また、大相国寺には『華厳経』に基づく仏身論により、盧舎那仏と眷属を伴う文殊・普賢像が安置された。この眷属中には、善財童子が含まれていた可能性が高い。北宋王朝の枢要寺院である啓聖禅院と大相国寺に出現した仏像と伽藍の構成原理は、大きな影響力を持ったと想定される。（ｂ）盧舎那仏像の姿：共通していたと想定される啓聖禅院と大相国寺の盧舎那仏の像容を探究した。その際に注目すべきは、両手を左右に拡げて構え掌を上に向ける印相（新印相）である。杭州飛来峰の盧舎那仏（乾興元年・1022）の印相として従来から注目され、鎌倉時代日本でも受容されたことが知られる。山西省長治博物館所蔵の盧舎那仏像は、頭上に五体の坐化仏を戴き新印相を執る。また、台座の千枚の蓮弁それぞれに仏坐像を配している。『梵網経』に基づく新印相の盧舎那仏として同像の重要性は高い。（ｃ）顕密融合の仏身論：北宋雍煕二年（985）の清凉寺釈迦如来像の仏身論は、『梵網経』・『華厳経』に基づきつつ、顕密を融合させるという点に特色がある。朝陽北塔天宮発見の木胎銀棺には、法身仏として大日如来が表現されている。法身・報身・化身という中国華厳の三身思想が遼仏教に及んだ時、大日如来が法身仏として造形化されるに至ったことが想定される。顕密融合の仏身論がここに認められる。さらに朝陽北塔では、仏舎利を大日如来に見立てていることが確認される。これは、清凉寺釈迦如来像像内の五臓が大日如来に見立てられたことと共通する。
