项目摘要

本研究4年目にあたる2022年度は、これまでの3年間に蓄積したフランス・ロマン主義時代の文学者の共属意識にまつわる知見を土台とし、より具体的なテクスト研究へと移行した。具体的にはヤン・ポトツキの『サラゴサ手稿』（1810年版）の検討である。フランスにおいてロマン主義がまさに芽生えようとしている時期に、ポーランド出身のポトツキによって全編フランス語で執筆されたこの大小説は、本研究のコーパスとして最良の素材となった。そもそもポトツキ自身が、言語、国籍、宗教といった人間の共属意識を形成する要素において、極めて独自な立点にあることは強調してよい。幼少期にフランス語による教育を受けた彼は、生涯にわたりフランス語によって思考・執筆する。大国による分割により故国ポーランドが地図上から消滅すると、ポトツキはロシア政府へと接近し、自らロシア人を名乗る。現ウクライナにある彼の領地は、オスマントルコにも近く、代々のポトツキ家の領主はイスラーム軍と干戈を交えている。ユダヤ教にも関心を抱くポトツキは、領内のアシュケナージと直接交流し、ユダヤの教義やヘブライ語にも通じることになる。こうした複雑な背景を持ち、かつ歴史、言語、宗教等に関する、膨大とも言える知識を備えた人物が執筆した『サラゴサ手稿』は、この時代のヨーロッパにおける共属意識の複雑さを、ひとつの比類ない文学作品として体現している。通常、乗り越えがたい壁と認識される宗教、言語、民族の間の境界は、相対的なものに過ぎないという事実をこの作品は雄弁に物語っている。2022年度は、これらの問題を次の2本の柱を立てることで考察した。ひとつにポトツキ自身の生涯の研究ー書簡、旅行記などーがあり、それを踏まえた上で『サラゴサ手稿』というフィクションにおける人間の共属意識の検討を行なった。
