本研究では、日本人英語学習者の話し言葉コーパスを使用して、社会語用論的能力を検証できるかを探索し、そこから得た示唆を外国語教育における語用論的能力の指導に応用することを主目的としている。これまでの研究において、本コーパスはインタビューテストの書き起こしから成るため、語用言語的情報を抽出することは可能であるが、学習者の発話が社会語用論的に適切であるかを判断することは難しいことが判明した。その理由は、学習者コーパスは、より自然発生的かつ散漫的な発話であるため、発話の状況や聞き手との力関係や社会的距離、選択した言語表現が聞き手に及ぼす影響等の様々な変数を制御できないことが挙げられる。そのため、発話行為を意図的に抽出するDiscourse Completion Taskとは異なり、依頼表現を単体で抽出してその適切性を判断すると、前後の文脈を無視し、相互行為能力として教育的な示唆を得ることが難しいため、令和４年度は、日本の英語教育の現場での実践を念頭に置き、対象データの社会語用論的能力を複数の判断者及び複数の観点から判断することにした。CEFR B1レベル以上の学習者データと想定される買い物の返品・返金交渉のロールプレイを日本の大学で英語教育に携わる判断者に複数提示した。判断者は、日本の大学の英語教員４名（うち２名は英語母語話者と日本語母語話者で、各話者グループは、語用論について専門的に学び、語用論的能力の指導や研究の実践経験のある１名とない１名ずつ）から成る。聞き手である試験官とのやり取りを考慮した相互行為や交渉結果に対する総合評価、依頼の適切性の判断、習熟度の想定だけでなく、教育的及び相互行為的な向上を念頭に置いて学習者や試験官に対しての提言を出してもらった。前述の質的分析は、判断者間の信頼性は低い傾向にあったが、社会語用論的能力を相互行為的に捉えることの重要性の示唆を得られた。
